Guinness World Records has posthumously awarded Jessi Combs as officially the world's fastest woman. Guinness awarded Combs the title after she was clocked at an average of 522.783 miles per hour in completed two-way runs before her August 27th, 2019, crash that took her life. After her death, Combs' family stated that "Jessi's most notable dream was to become the fastest woman on Earth." Mission accomplished, Jessi.
Ms.Combs early in her life turned down a full scholarship to a prominent interior design school to travel North America before settling in Denver, CO. She would later on move to Laramie, WY to attend WyoTech a vocational training school that provides a concentrated training program in the automotive and diesel industries. While there she studied Collision/Refinishing, Chassis Fabrication, Street Rod Fabrication, and Trim/Upholstery, graduating at the top of her class with a degree in Custom Automotive Fabrication.
Terry Madden, Comb’s partner, wrote in a long Instagram post that he doesn’t know how to feel about the achievement, “as no record could ever be worth her not being here.”
“But it was a goal that she really wanted—and as hard as it is for me to even look at the car without crying. I’m so proud of her,” he added. “She woke up that morning to an alarm saying ‘lets make history’ and we had an absolutely amazing day.”
“I was in the safety vehicle beside her as she was slowing down when the accident happened, I watched the accident live as well as the onboard footage that was recovered. I can 100 percent tell you beyond any doubt that she did everything exactly as she was supposed to.”
Ms. Combs is best known for her work as a television personality who appeared in several shows, including Xtreme 4x4, 2 Guys Garage, TruckU, the 7th season of Mythbusters, Overhaulin' and All Girls Garage.
All Girls garage Host Bogi Lateiner posted on her Instagram page this:
“The fastest speed on land achieved by a woman... breaking a record that had stood for more than 40 years, @thejessicombs was officially recognized by @guinnessworldrecords yesterday as the fastest woman on earth.
Without question she is missed. Without question she left a legacy that will never be forgotten. It was not that she had no fear, but that everyday she chose to act in spite of it. Her passion, her dedication and her commitment to pushing herself to do and be the best she could be was impossible to ignore. She lived her life out loud and at full throttle.
Here’s to you Jessi. While it’s beyond tragic that you are no longer with us to receive the honor, I know that the magnitude of impact you have had on the world and future generations of trailblazers will ensure that your memory and your mission live on.
And here’s to all the bad a$$ women out there - taking on their fears, pushing themselves, breaking their own records, and acting every day in spite of fear to follow their hearts and their passions and to leave their mark on the world. * * *
